...Rainbow sheep. [He snorts, throwing his arms up in the air for a moment.] From zombies to these. I might even be growing warm to the Animus' sense of humor, if it weren't for the fact that these creatures look so ridiculously ugly. [To himself.] Almost as bad as that one coat of his.

Now, what exactly is going on with the rest of the city right now? Something more than rainbow sheep, from my brief overview of the network today.

The sheep may seem ugly to you, good sir, but their arrival is welcome. Think of all the wool we can use to make warm blankets and clothing! With resources as meager as they are, such a creature is a blessing.

Can you spin it?

What lady is not able to spin wool?

Well. Most of them, around here. And they're really insulted if you ask if they can, too.

[This is very odd to her.]

They may be insulted because it shows a lack in their education. But that is a lack which can be fixed. If we can make several drop-spindles, the situation can be remedied most easily.

Drop spindles.

I'm afraid I don't remember much about spinning wheels, since I haven't seen one since I was young. But with some help, I can make one?

I'll find the sheep, shear them, wash up the wool and then set up a spinning wheel for you and you can spin it into yarn?

-=Sounds fair, since he's planning to shear ALL THE SHEEP EVER.=-

A drop spindle and whorl may be easier to make. I can sketch one for you, if you like. They are smaller than a wheel, and can be made more quickly. I am certain my cousin can help.

[Because she'll give Tybalt the Big Eyes look and convince him it's necessary for their well-being.]

There is more preparation for the wool than simply washing it. It must be sorted and carded and combed before it can be spun. And how fine a thread we wish to make must be decided upon as well.

Her Majesty the Queen of England and I have been discussing what to do with the wool. I have a pair of sheep, thanks to Bubbles.

[She looks at him carefully for a moment.]

Edward, is it not? You seem in much better spirits than when last we spoke.

I have ten and counting, so far.

-=He listens to all the things that need to be done.=- Sure, not a problem. We can definitely get that done.

-=And then he rubs the back of his head.=- Yes, ma'am. Well. Having something useful around is a reason for better spirits, right?

Ten spindles, or ten sheep?

[A young man with knowledge of how to care for wool? Interesting.]

You know how to card and comb, Edward? Do you tend sheep in your homeland?

[And she smiles at this.]

Indeed it is. I, too, am in much better spirits than when we last spoke. I am no longer lost and out of sorts.

Sheep. -=Well. Nine. One's going in the pit for an overnight roast!=-

Vaguely. My birth town's major export is wool. My mother didn't work with wool directly, but my brother and I saw some of it when we were little.

Well, that's good to hear. I'm glad. Settling in here isn't the easiest of things to do. Some are definitely better at it than others.

[Ten sheep. Wow. And hooray for knowing about sheep! Juliet is impressed.]

You must have more land around you than we do. There is enough room for our pair of sheep, but not more, at the moment. Can you tell the sex of a sheep? I am hoping that the pair we have are a possible breeding pair, that we may have more in future and increase our prosperity.

It is not so difficult as I imagined. My cousin has found us a little house, and we have settled into making it suit and keeping ourselves fit and safe. Doing the washing and cooking is not easy, but I am learning slowly. I find I enjoy the independence of managing my own household.

Not really. I'm just trying to find as many as I can to get the wool. More than likely, they're going to disappear at the end of the week. We just don't have enough resources to feed them.

I can sex them. It's not hard. I haven't seen any rams yet, though.

-=And he smiles a bit.=- Yeah, making your own way is empowering.

[She's had a feeling they were going to disappear. Hence her approval of Bubbles bringing them home. She keeps hoping a few will stick around, though.]

Alas, we do not. Let us hope the wool does not disappear along with the sheep. Although it will make Bubbles so sad if all the sheep leave.

[She turns her PCD briefly to show her own pair of sheep, currently standing near the door to Tybalt's room.]

Is it possible to tell through the little machine of what sex the sheep are?

[She smiles as well.]

It is at that. I think it annoys my dear cos, though.

I hope the wool doesn't go, either. It would be a shame to have all this go to waste.

After we've done all this work in preparing it, it would be more than a shame. It would be cruel.

[She kneels down and holds the PCD about a foot or so off the ground, pointing at the sheep.]

Like this?

Alas. Would that we had a breeding pair. Perhaps I could trade an ewe for a ram, if you have any?

Wool is not only useful for warm clothing. Depending on how it is spun, it can make fine thread for sewing and mending what we do have. And the sheep may be slaughtered for meat as well. Mutton would be a good addition to the diet here.

And what will you do if you cannot find a path out of this place before the winter cold sets in? Is it not better to prepare oneself for all possibilities?
