Ah, it's been nice to be back in my own body. Last week wasn't particularly what I would call pleasant, though we've had worse tricks played on us by the Animus. Not that I'm any more pleased with them, of course.

It really is strange to watch seasons pass by sequentially in an Earth fashion. Time Lord and all, I hardly lived my lives in anything close to a linear path through time. How...quaint. A little dull and so slow but I suppose it has a bit of charm to it.

I am looking forward to proper snow. Ooh, we can even build snowmen, have snowball fights, it'll just be like childhood.

...I have a question. Do you know how to knit? If so... [He looks more than a little uncomfortable and hesitant about this next part.] Would it be possible for you to teach me the basics?

[It sounds a bit on the silly side, but he listens intently anyway. The kittens seem to find the story intriguing enough, as they've hopped onto the bed and are sitting there, looking at the Doctor and listening as well.]

We went back to wandering the ship and found human parts wired into it. We had to assume they were what was left of the crew. I went back through the fireplace. It was Reinette's life still, but decades had passed. She was all grown up. [He pauses slightly to smile, recollecting how she snogged him up against the fireplace.] Mmm.

... [He's giving him a look right now. A "you are saying something that I am not liking very much" look.] "Mmm", what?

Just...I found out she was Madame de Pompadour. [He smiles.] She thought I was her imaginary friend. She really knew how to make herself look beautiful, you know?

[He hesitates a moment.] She was in love with me.

How terribly unsurprising. You and your Earth girls.

[He keeps a straight face, but doesn't look teeeeeerribly amused at this part of the story. He motions for him to just continue on.]

[A retort is on his tongue about how they weren't just any Earth girls, but he bites it back. No point in antagonizing the Master. Not in the middle of a story, anyway.]

Anywaaay, the clock robots kept opening all these windows in time, all along Reinette's life, because for some reason they had decided they needed her brain to replace their ship computer, but that she had to be the same age as the ship before she was considered 'complete'. I promised her I'd come for her when she needed me, but I almost didn't make it. In order to ensure Reinette's continued safety, I knew I had to break one of the windows, which would prevent anyone, including me, from getting back.

[He sighs, rubbing the back of his head.]

Sacrificing yourself for one of your humans. Your story doesn't amaze in the least, but...continue.

[He shrugs.] There was a horse on the ship and I sort of...broke through a time window with it. [brief grin] If anything, it was an entrance. Then I saved Reinette, turned off the clocks, the usual. But I was stuck.

She didn't mind too much. Of course not. [quiet laugh] She wanted me to 'take the slow path' with her. Live a normal life. Hmm. I would have liked that, but that's not me. I figured it out, of course. Found a window that was still connected to the ship. And...[He bites his lip slightly.] Well. That's all the important parts.

Mm. [He just....nods.] Intriguing. ...but that isn't you. I would have had to come steal you away, rescue you.

[He's quiet for a moment.] What do you mean?

I could never let you take a slow path. That isn't for us.

It's definitely not for us. Yet here we are. Living in a house. With cats. Taking the slow path.

....Well. This is different. The two of us. Forced to, but together. Two of us suffering together can manage somehow, I think.

Somehow we'll make it. [He smiles slightly.] At least it isn't all suffering.

Happy you're stuck with me?

...Yes, actually. I did wish we'd had more time to sort things out.

And now we do.

Going by the state of things now, I think it's working.

So it seems to be. Intriguing, hm?

It is. We haven't been on such good terms in centuries. [quiet laugh]

So...here we are. [He grins a bit.]

Here we are. [He grins back, picking up a sandwich and raising it in a mock toast.]

[He cheers with a sandwich, chuckling before biting into his own.]

[Clearly there's something wrong with the two of them. They are cheering with sandwiches. He laughs and takes a bite as well, reflecting with amusement at how their relationship has changed since he landed here.]

[There's plenty wrong with them. Pleeeeeeeeeenty. This is rather ridiculous, and really, he wants to laugh. He wants to laugh at how ridiculous, silly, and almost insulting it is to be sitting here with the Doctor, cheering with sandwiches, swapping life stories, living together with bloody kittens.

He should punch himself in the face. Both of them, for even daring to consider this life, but instead he finds himself just...oddly content.]
