Ah, it's been nice to be back in my own body. Last week wasn't particularly what I would call pleasant, though we've had worse tricks played on us by the Animus. Not that I'm any more pleased with them, of course.

It really is strange to watch seasons pass by sequentially in an Earth fashion. Time Lord and all, I hardly lived my lives in anything close to a linear path through time. How...quaint. A little dull and so slow but I suppose it has a bit of charm to it.

I am looking forward to proper snow. Ooh, we can even build snowmen, have snowball fights, it'll just be like childhood.

...I have a question. Do you know how to knit? If so... [He looks more than a little uncomfortable and hesitant about this next part.] Would it be possible for you to teach me the basics?

You were able to help, then? That is good.

[Because of course if he was there, he would have helped. Lord Saxon is so kind.]

It was mostly the Doctor playing hero, really.

[Le sigh.]

[Her expression changes slightly, remembering what he's said in the past.]

Was this one of those times you and he met, and he was cruel to you?

[Because, although she can't see it with the one who is here now, she can imagine the Doctor, before coming here, perhaps stealing Lord Saxon's thunder by rescuing people he'd intended to rescue, or not allowing him to help.]

It was a--complicated time. We hadn't seen each other in quite a while.

[He's thoughtful for a bit.]

I begrudge him many things, but to his credit, he was rather...thoughtful towards me then, for the first time in centuries. Made for an interesting change. Nicer to me than I was to him at that point, though I wasn't unjustified.

Old conflicts are the hardest to resolve. I am glad he was thoughtful to you at that time. Perhaps he was beginning to understand the extend of the wrong he had committed against you.

And I am glad you and he are friends again here.

You know what? So am I. It's refreshing.

And it because you are glad that I am able to be so. I would see you happy, Lord Saxon.

[A retort is on his tongue about how they weren't just any Earth girls, but he bites it back. No point in antagonizing the Master. Not in the middle of a story, anyway.]

Anywaaay, the clock robots kept opening all these windows in time, all along Reinette's life, because for some reason they had decided they needed her brain to replace their ship computer, but that she had to be the same age as the ship before she was considered 'complete'. I promised her I'd come for her when she needed me, but I almost didn't make it. In order to ensure Reinette's continued safety, I knew I had to break one of the windows, which would prevent anyone, including me, from getting back.

[He sighs, rubbing the back of his head.]

Sacrificing yourself for one of your humans. Your story doesn't amaze in the least, but...continue.

[He shrugs.] There was a horse on the ship and I sort of...broke through a time window with it. [brief grin] If anything, it was an entrance. Then I saved Reinette, turned off the clocks, the usual. But I was stuck.

She didn't mind too much. Of course not. [quiet laugh] She wanted me to 'take the slow path' with her. Live a normal life. Hmm. I would have liked that, but that's not me. I figured it out, of course. Found a window that was still connected to the ship. And...[He bites his lip slightly.] Well. That's all the important parts.

Mm. [He just....nods.] Intriguing. ...but that isn't you. I would have had to come steal you away, rescue you.

I like where this is going.

[He's quiet for a moment.] What do you mean?

I could never let you take a slow path. That isn't for us.

It's definitely not for us. Yet here we are. Living in a house. With cats. Taking the slow path.

....Well. This is different. The two of us. Forced to, but together. Two of us suffering together can manage somehow, I think.

Somehow we'll make it. [He smiles slightly.] At least it isn't all suffering.

Happy you're stuck with me?

...Yes, actually. I did wish we'd had more time to sort things out.

And now we do.

Going by the state of things now, I think it's working.

So it seems to be. Intriguing, hm?

It is. We haven't been on such good terms in centuries. [quiet laugh]

So...here we are. [He grins a bit.]

Here we are. [He grins back, picking up a sandwich and raising it in a mock toast.]
