It can get so quiet around here once you're grown used to incessant, idiotic babbling around your living area all of the time--and then, poof! Gone, without so much as a goodbye. Vanished like some cheap magic trick. Then again, it isn't as if there's been a very good track record set to begin with. I'll just have to focus my energies elsewhere, then. Speaking of...

[He turns in his chair, glancing over at his bed. Curled up there, swatting at a few scrap electronics, is a small kitten. It's a dark golden color and can't be more than a few months old. The Master frowns.]

Theta, leave those alone.

Private to Lucifer // Unhackable

What of that gate we were so keen on working on opening, hmmm?

It is also used in Gallifreyan. [He hesitates for just a moment.] It was a name I knew from a very long time ago. Anyway, I found him wandering the streets outside on one of my walks. How could I just leave the poor thing to starve?

I wonder, then, if the Lords of Time taught it to the ancient Greeks? How marvelous that would be!

[She smiles and shakes her head slightly.]

You could not, of course. And you wonder why I call you a good man, Lord Saxon?

Who knows? Rassilon had it in him to influence the entire universe, before the Time Lords took their stance of non-interference.

[He just. Chuckles at that last part.]

Too kind, Juliet.

If the Lords of Time are the older and wiser of our peoples, it would make sense that they taught humans many things, as elders teach children. Why, though, did they decide not to interfere with other peoples? Surely those they helped were grateful for such things?

[She smiles in reply. They will always have this argument, it seems, and she will never win. If it pleases him to say such, she will let him, though, so long as he does not say anything against himself in the process.]

It's a very long and very complicated story. Time Lords have the power to alter the very course of history itself--what was, what is, and what will be. Any of those are available to us to change as we please. The logic was that there was some restraint necessary, I suppose.

[She listens attentively, with wide eyes.]

Truly, your people were magnificent, Lord Saxon, to be able to do such things. And, can you still? You and your Doctor?

[She nods.]

Power always must have some form of restraint, lest it is abused. Good men such as yourself would not abuse that sort of power, but there are likely some who would, and cause all sorts of trouble. It must be a very heavy burden, the power to change history on such a scale. It makes you caretakers of everything, in a way, does it not?

We can, of course, though I...misplaced, you might say, my own vehicle to travel through space and time, back home. Long story. And I suppose in a way it does, but that's a responsibility that I don't care to take on.

[And oh, he abuses the fuck out of said power, but. Yeah/]
capuletnomore: (oh I see)

Misplaced...you suffered the loss of it when you suffered the loss of your home? Truly, you had a lucky escape.

And I do not blame you. You are but one man, even if you are a Lord of Time, and one man cannot see to the running of all history everywhere - such a task is one only the Lord may oversee. It shall proceed as it will.

I lost it at around that time.

I've seen the very end of the universe. Lived there for quite a while, in fact. I think that I'll leave it to itself, yes.

The end of the universe? You have seen the Apocalypse, Lord Saxon?

[She's in awe at the moment.]

The end times must have been most interesting to have seen in person. And you do well not to interfere with it, by my reckoning. Such a thing is only for God to determine the outcome.

[identity profile] soundsofdrums.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
No, there's no such thing--no one event. The real end of the universe, trillions of years from your time, where there is but a few beings still alive.
capuletnomore: (proud on balcony)

As no human truly knows how the end times will be, or when, what you describe could be part of that. Those few could be the souls who were not taken up to Heaven in the Rapture that has been foretold. If it is the true end of the universe, then it is God determining that such an end must come.

[Trillions? Juliet's lucky she can think in thousands. It must be a very long time off.]
