[There's unhappy, and there's what the Master looks like right now. He's clearly been crying for a while, his eyes red-rimmed, even if he's tried to clean himself up a bit.]

S-Sonja...Juliet...either of you... I'd..really appreciate someone to talk to right now. Things went...so horribly wrong, and I--

[He chokes up with a slight sob, and scrambles to end the call. But he fails to actually hit the button, so left on the screen for a good few minutes before the feed times off is a sobbing Time Lord curled up in on himself.]

[She returns it, squeezing just as tightly, before reaching up to stroke at his hair in a soothing fashion.]

Do you wish to speak of it, Lord Saxon?

He... I went... He agreed to go on a date with me. And I...I thought....he actually cared, b-but he...he spent the time telling me how he never loved me, never cared, always...always hated me, never was worth it...

[She listens carefully, still stroking his hair and holding him close while he speaks. Where he cannot see, her eyes narrow. To toy with his affections - this to her is worse than physical harm.]

He is not worthy of you, Lord Saxon. If he can be so cruel and callous to you, he is not worth the love and affection you bestow upon him.

[A pause. Barely a moment.]

Which of him told you these horrible things?

The...older one. The one with a bowtie. Oh, Juliet, I love him, I love him so much... I can't... [He buries his face in her hair, muffling a sob.]

[She makes a note of that description. There will be words later.]

My poor Lord Saxon.... To love so deeply, and to be treated thus. He has gone too far in his ill-treatment of you. And he is truly a fool if he cannot understand your love and return it.

[The sob has her squeezing him again, and draws her mind from thoughts of vengeance.]

I don't...I don't know what to do, I just... I don't... I've settled with him never loving me back, but to hear...all of it thrown at me, I...

You should not have to settle for such things. And he was insensitive and cruel to say such to you as he did.

[Would that she could make this Doctor suffer as much as he has made Lord Saxon suffer. Right now, she would do it without hesitation.]

I... What should I do...?

[She bites her tongue for a moment, because the words that want to come are, 'Hurt him.' But she does not think he wants to hear that. So she takes a moment to think of something that will help.]

What is it you wish to do, Lord Saxon?

I don't know. I...haven't given up for centuries, but I... I don't know, Juliet...

It is difficult to stop loving someone. I do not think I have ever done so, in my brief life. I imagine it must only be harder when that love has lasted centuries. Do not give it up, Lord Saxon. You are upset, and rightly so, with how he has treated you. But, as you advised me only a few days ago, one should not make decisions in haste, particularly concerning love. When the immediacy of what has happened has faded, you will be able to see the path more clearly.

[She squeezes him again.]

But I do not like to see you so upset. Someone you love should not cause you such pain, especially not deliberately.

You're right. ... [He just keeps on hugging her.] I don't know what I would do without you, Juliet. You... You're the only person who doesn't judge me. You're the only person that truly cares and will see past that I've done horrible things. I... I thank you.

Everyone does horrible things. My cousin has done a horrible thing. My husband has done a most horrible thing. I cannot love them any less because of those things, because they are good men. As are you. You are a good man, and do not let anyone tell you differently. That you repent your actions of the past, that you do good things here, that you have reached out to your Doctor time and again - all of this proves that you are a good man. You have been a friend to me, and I do not abandon my friends, Lord Saxon.

J-Juliet... [He almost wants to cry. It's more than he's had in centuries.] No one... no one has truly cared for me in this way since my first century of life... I don't know what to say. I don't know how to thank you.

[She pulls away from him just enough to look him in the eyes, and smiles at him.]

Continue to be my friend, and allow me to be yours, Lord Saxon. I value your friendship highly.

Thank you. [He feels a lot better, really.]

[She leans forward to plant a kiss on his cheek, as she would to her father.]

You are most welcome. And you may always rely upon me.

I will. No matter what, even if I cannot admit it or am not obvious...I always will. Never forget that, even if I don't say it.

[She nods.]

[And she hugs him tightly again.]
