[The Master isn't quite looking at the PCD when it turns on. Currently, he's laid up in a bed in the clinic, bandages wrapped around his head and various parts of his body, including his neck. Cuts and bruises litter his skin, and he's looking incredibly worse from the wear. His eyes are hardly focused, as well, and when he speaks, he doesn't even look at the screen yet. His voice is quiet, hoarse even.]

Whoever decided it would be...a funny idea to attack me? ...Big mistake.

[With that, he looks at the screen, gaze hardening for just a brief moment.]

I will find out who you are.

[He goes silent as he looks away and gets that far-off look again. It's fairly obvious that his body wasn't the only thing just recently damaged. After several moments, he reaches over, fumbling for the PCD and turning it off.]

[Yeah, he's been here all night. Not so much watching over the Master as... LOOMING. He had to step out to grab a bite to eat though. And just in time to hear the tail end of that entry.]

So... how exactly did you make someone angry enough to do this to you?

Bloody hell if I know. I don't even know who it was.

[He isn't really looking directly at the Doctor--not entirely. But every so often, his eyes are flickering towards him, watching him for a moment, as if he's afraid he'll leave.

And in a way, he is.]

[Not going anywhere, you. He's just going to LOOM. Like a teacher that's caught you trying to hide that tack on his chair.]

...I'm sure you remember quite well what you've inflicted on others though, haven't you?

[He'd rather the looming, he suppose, even if on some level it...well. It's not that he's scared, but it's something like it.]

Please, after over nine hundred years, it's all a blur.

[He'll sooner believe a Sontaran waving a white flag, thank you.]

The more willing you are to be honest about what you've done, the more willing and able I'll be to protect you from others who might want "justice."

Please. You'd just use it as an excuse to move out and shun me. Again.

And leave you even more able to wreak havoc?

[He almost grins.]

Well. Of course that's the only reason.

[A little childish? Maybe. It takes him a long while, but he speaks up again.]

Fine. I might've hypnotized a few people here to go and cause a little chaos around the city a while back, before you got here. Nothing big.

[Hell if he's going to tell the Doctor about his part in the bomb plot. He knows that the other Time Lord won't put up with that. He's still a damn good liar, and he'll make sure that's not found out.]

[...Well, it's a start at least.]

From my experience, your idea of "big" starts at depopulating cities.

[He chuckles.]

Well, maybe. But it didn't go that far, I assure you!

No, no I'd wager not.

{smirk.]

If that was the case, I might not be able to throw a stone without hitting someone out to get you, with all the [other...] dangerous people that roam this city.

Possibly not. But I think that there's only one person who knows I was behind it. [Pause, as he rubs gingerly at his neck.] Maybe two.

...And they would be?

No clue on my main attacker. Whoever came afterward to kick me while I was down--or maybe it's the same person--seemed to have a taste for Time Lord blood, though. Or just blood in general.

[Oh, the list of suspects can't be that long though, can it?]

Well... that helps narrow things down at least. Nothing else that might be of some help?

[He's quiet for a bit, aside from an absentminded drumming of his fingers. The usual. He looks over at the Doctor, just...staring for a bit.]

[He sees that stare.]

I won't be going anywhere for a while yet. Best to keep an eye out until you're well enough to put up a fair fight when someone else decides they want revenge.

That's awfully kind of you, Doctor.

[He sounds a little bitter.]

[It must be catching.]

Though I may make a habit of it more often. Much easier to keep this from happening again if there's less reason for someone to want to do it, right?

[For a while he's silent. He glances away eventually, his eyes unfocused again.]

Whoever attacked me had quite powerful psychic powers.

...Sounds about right, considering the damage they were able to do, and while hiding their identity entirely.

Do you remember anything from while the attack was happening? Sights, sounds, smells?

...Tastes?

[More silence.]

They made me relive Sarn.

...That might've been a bit much.

[Processing that, and maybe casting a split-second sympathetic glance the Master's way.]

what about right before the attack happened?

[No shit, that might have been much. It was just about the worst moment of his lives.]

I was lured there. There was a female voice when I was there, though I can't place it, and...another I can't remember. After they made a bloody cabinet fall on top of me, they started the mental assault. I'd rather not think about after.

Well... That's somewhere to work from, at least.
